Fatwas on - Widow not getting married/Repaying debt is priority/Marriage first/Role of a woman's guardian
Widow not getting married
Q- Is it permissible for a young woman to abstain from getting married (again) after the death of her husband?
A - The Shariah strongly encourages marriage. So the guardian of this young woman should advise her to get married and encourage her in this. However, if she refuses (to do so) and does not fear any Fitnah for herself, then she can abstain from marriage and that is the matter which concerns her.
Repaying debt is priority
Q- Is it permissible for a person in debt who earns a good salary to give Sadaqah (voluntary charity) of SR 10,000? He does not want to miss the opportunity to donate this money for the establishment of a school for Qur'an memorization.
A - Hastening to repay one's debts should be given priority over giving Sadaqah (voluntary charity), except in the case where payment of that debt has not become due yet and the debtor has in his possession more than the amount owed by him. Hence he may give his money in Sadaqah.

Marriage first
Q- A common custom among the people nowadays is for a woman or her father to refuse a man's proposal so that she may finish high school, college or some specific amount of studying. What is the ruling concerning that? Sometimes, the woman reaches the age of 30 or more and she has yet to get married!
A – My advice to all young men and young women is to get married quickly if the means to it are made possible for you. This is because the Prophet (peace be upon him) has said:
"O community of youth, if any of you have the means to, he should get married, as it lowers the gaze (from looking at forbidden thigs) and protects the private parts. Those who have not the ability to do so should fast, as it will be a shield for them." – (Bukhari and Muslim)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said:
"If one whose religion and character pleases you proposes to you, you should marry (your daughters to) him. If you do not do so, them will be tribulations in the land and great evil." – (Tirmidhi – Hasan)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said:
"Marry the child-bearing, loving woman for I shall outnumber the peoples because of you on the Day of Resurrection." – (Musnad Ahmad, graded Saheeh by Ibn Hibban)
Therefore, there are many benefits to marriage which the Prophet (peace be upon him) alluded to, including lowering the gaze, protecting the private parts, increasing the numbers of the Muslim Nation and being saved from great evil and misfortune.

Role of a woman's guardian
Q- What is the responsibility of the Walee (guardian) of a young woman towards a man who has come forth to propose to his daughter?
A – It is obligatory upon the Walee to select, for the one for whom he is a guardian over, a suitable pious man whose (practice of the) religion and trustworthiness he is pleased with, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"When someone with whose religion and character you are satisfied with asks for your daughter in marriage, accede to his request. If you do not do so, there will be sedition on Earth and extensive corruption." – (Ibn Maajah and Tirmidhi)
So it is obligatory upon the Walee to fear Allah in this regard, and safeguard the best interests of the one whom he is a guardian for, and not his own interests. Certainly, he has been entrusted with the responsibility which Allah has bestowed upon him, and he is not to demand of the proposer (to the young woman) that which he is unable to comply with, such as requesting Mahr above the common practice (rate).
