Time your make-up

The rules of make-up during the day aren't the same as that during the evening. Make-up tips that will make you look great all day long

Day

The look

The thumb rule of day make-up is that it has to look soft, natural and effortless, even if you have spent your entire morning with the brushes! In daylight all shades and shapes are clear for others to see, so opt for colours and make-up technique that is subtle. The focus should be on highlighting all your features.

Time: 30 minutes

You will need

Cleanser, toner, moisturiser, concealer, compact powder, tinted moisturiser, powder eye shadow tray (peach, pink, light brown, beige), kajal (black), blush (cherry pink, peachy orange, light brown), gloss (pink, red, plum), brush kit.

Getting Started

• As it's the day's beginning, take time out to thoroughly cleanse, tone and moisturise the skin.

• Now apply a thin layer of concealer under the eyes.Even it out with the rest of the skin

• Take some tinted moisturer. Dab it on the entire face and neck. Apply thin coat of compact powder on top.

• Hold the outer corner of your eye with your fingertip and start applying the eye shadow. Start from the middle of the eye lid going towards your fingertip first and then towards the inner corner of the eye.

• Follow this with a line of eye-liner; make it thick if you have small eyes and vice-versa.

• Now rub some blusher in circular motion, only on the apples of your cheeks.

• Follow this with a thin coat of lip gloss and you are ready to hit the streets.

Evening

The look

Night make-up should scream glamour. Use colours and add as much as character, drama and bling as possible. Focus should be on highlighting only one feature on your face.

Time: 45 minutes

You will need

Cleanser, toner, moisturiser, concealer, compact powder, foundation, shimmer, eyelash curler, mascara, cheek highlighter (gold, silver, bronze), powder and cream based eye shadow tray (black, moss green, deep blue, gray), kajal or kohl (black, forest green, blue), blush (bronze, brown, maroon, deep red), lip pencil and lipstick (red, fuchsia pink, deep peach, orange), lip gloss (optional), brush kit

Getting Started

• Lightly cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin.

• Apply a thin layer of concealer on acne, dark spots and under the eyes. Even it out with the rest of the skin.

• Pick a foundation tone that is the same as your natural skin colour and add a hint of the shimmer to it. Mix and apply it evenly on your face and neck. Follow it with some compact powder.

• Next, hold the outer corner of your eye with your fingertip and start applying the cream based eye shadow. Start from the middle of the eye lid going towards your fingertip first and then towards the inner corner of the eye. Follow this with the same shade of a powder based eye-shadow.

• Now apply a thick line of eye-liner and use a smudger brush to mix all the shades up.

• You can pick from kohl or kajal pencil and apply a thin layer inside your eye.

• Curl your eye lashes with a curler and apply ample mascara. Make your lashes look distinct.

• Take some blusher on the brush and rub it in circular motion, only on the apples of your cheeks. Followed by a thin coat of highlighter. Make sure you mix them evenly.

• Lastly define your lips with a thin line of lip pencil and fill with the same shade of lipstick. You could enhance it with a thin line of gloss on top
